I have decided to not do a political system.

Would it be cool? Absolutely! I'd love to see real politics involved in MonBre, and maybe one day we will see it.

But for now, there are no plans to continue the city system. I'm in the process of re-organizing the reference and setting up the things like hospital and school (renamed to university and only being in cities) for the future of MonBre. My goal here will actually be to dull-down the complexity of the game, because it can be very daunting to new players, and I feel it's not the best way to go about our business.

Discuss.

Edit: Also, my brain is now swirling with ideas. Beware...

Vael, the game's clock doesn't match the forum's clock. I know this because the game clock shows 10:17 AST and your post says it was edited at 17:05:36.

Anyway, that sounds like a good idea, were there actual quests that would have been unlocked due to having x number of workers in the hospital/university/etc.?

Just a random thought, have hospitals in cities, some kind of smaller thing going on in towns... Medical center, tent, whatever fits best. Not important or anything in any way, but hey, if you really felt like it.

Maybe later on, have a vote on whether we should have politics. When there's enough players to get a good idea of the general opinion, that is, and to actually keep the gears of ten cities turning.

Actually someone posted a rather off topic and silly reply to this thread, so I had to delete it, which still made it appear they posted, so I posted, hoping no one would notice the time. Curses, foiled again. (the forum and game share the same clock)

I love the hospital-hut idea! No reason to have a big ole hospital in towns anyway, I'll see what I can do for schools too.

No, actually, there were no unlockable quests. It was just a dumb system, I wanted to try something and I ended up just messing everything up.

Oh, so apparently I totally missed how long ago this thread was made, and didn't realize that the forum was on 24h clock vs. game time being am/pm clock. My bad.

I'm guessing it doesn't take much to change the name of things, I was kinda thinking it would take a slight amount of effort or something if there was some kind of automatic town generation thingajig that connected everything together. Which apparently there isn't.

It's not exactly a stupid system, I've seen lots of games with a politics system. Just too much too soon, really. If there were two hundred more players, then I'm sure it'd work two thousand times better than it had been. Although, usually the politics are more of an isolated thing, like people can create their own villages and get people to join them and work towards village upgrades and stuff, or towns just having separate markets/arenas/town specific forums/unimportant things like that.

The closest thing I've seen was one game which had a default town with all the basics, and then player created towns which had their own separate economies and everything. Trading/moving between cities and stuff was fine, but for example if you happened to get caught stealing in x city, you might get four minutes in jail. You get caught stealing in y city, you get two. Aside from that, there were little features that had to be unlocked/upgraded by the towns, such as mines, professions, etc. which weren't available in the default town.

The political system really interested me, and a year from now it'd be great to see. One possibility is to have everything you implement now be the default for cities, no possible way to screw things up and lose these quests/features. Then add in discounts or reductions to things or improvements here and there which can be unlocked, but are in no way, shape, or form necessary to progress in the game.
