I use mIRC and have it connected 24/7.
When I am online I talk, when I am not online I don't talk.
It isn't a matter of not likeing or not wanting to talk to people. Its just nice to be able to log an entire days worth of conversations to keep up to date when you're not about.
[edit] And it is already kinda cliquey. Part of reason for inactivity.

LOL No, you register the channel with the server. It will remain open even with no people. Only the people set as the channel ops will get ops (if its registered correctly this varies depending on the server) and others who enter will just be regular peons with no powers even with no ops in the room.

Anyone can open a temp channel, have ops and change things around. The reason it disappears is because you have not registered it. In order to register a channel you usually need to have a registered nick also. *looks at that server to see what it uses*
Ok, so imperium uses basic nickserv and chanserv as most servers do.
To register your nick;
type /msg nickserv REGISTER password email
password and email being obviously, the password you want for your nickname and your current email address.
The first time you are registered you are automatically identified, so you don't need to worry. But each time you sign in after, you must identify.
To identify yourself;
type /msg nickserv IDENTIFY password
password being the one you set when your registered your nick.
If you are a mIRC user I can show you how to set it to autoidentify you.
Now that you have a registered nick, you want to start your own channel.Enter the chan as you normally would.
To register your channel;
type /msg chanserv REGISTER #channame password description
Your channel will be under your command, you will be able to perma set people as auto-ops & perma set topics etc. You will be in complete control. Now, remember, in order for your channel to recognise you as the owner whenever you connect to the server you muct identify with nickserv.
