While stuffing toast with peanut butter down my throat as quickly as possible this morning, I was wondering what exactly we breeders actually do all day while our monsters are at work. Sleep? Wander around aimlessly with dumb looks on our faces?
I was thinking that'd be a good angle for a quest ("you walk into the bar, hoping to find a way to spend the day. maybe there'll be a citizen in need here!" and then something that depends on which story you picked, like neutral would be like well, I've gotta find something to do... and evil would be like helping people is great and all, but what I'm really after is their... gratitude... and the gifts that come with it!) when I thought that maybe breeders should be able to take jobs as a way to increase their daily income, sorta like the license upgrades. Then I thought well, make the jobs require a certain level license, and that way you can replace one license level with a job instead.
But where would those jobs come from? The Azure Lions? The World Police (I think that was the name)? The Sylfaen Clan, or just the individual town councils?
What about... ALL OF THEM?
Instead of like the Azure Lions are buying ingredients for an experiment, and the town council is looking for an intern, pick one of the above, you would pick which faction you'd like to join. This would be near the end of campaign 1, but there could be faction specific quests lying around in the early cities to keep people busy later on. You would do various things for them during the day, and eventually be able to do a quest to get promoted. You wouldn't be getting like 5,000 bux per day, it'd be pretty minimal, with most of your "salary" being given in bonuses instead. Money doesn't grow on trees, you know!
I'm not sure what kinds of bonuses you could give, I haven't had the time to think of much as far as that goes yet. I just thought I'd put the idea out there and see how it goes over. It wouldn't change the entire game or anything - you'd just happen to be a Sylfaen Grunt part-time, and of course you're not going to be some super high ranking guy like... Giovani in Team Rocket. You know, the guy who's the leader of the second gym, but isn't there until late in the game.
Fighting evil by moonlight, winning love by daylight kinda thing, you know? XD We could even have emergency phone booths for those times when you really need to change into your super secret identity. Naked transformation sequences not included.

But when that call never comes, it's time to face what you've become - there's no point doing all of this, unless you know you're having fun.
