I'm not really sure how, or if, you could do it, but here's my idea.
A little compass which, when you mouse over it, tells you how far x and how far y you are away from the co-ordinates you set for it. Say you're at New Orsa, and want to go to Silvamed. You put in the co-ordinates for Silvamed, and it says South 50 steps or something along those lines.

But when that call never comes, it's time to face what you've become - there's no point doing all of this, unless you know you're having fun.
