I've taken your suggestions and have decided the following:
* no ads (obviously) * auto-raid-joining, you don't have to be on to contribute to raids. * Either free or heavily reduced train and boat rides (killed me to consider) * a VIP-only layout no one gives a shit about * the ability to test new features sooner than others * VIP-only forum * whatever else I can think of
I suppose it's quite reasonable, for US residents... Damy my foreing currency, that cost me almost 11 pesos... and since we don't have PayPal support in my country it's impossible for me...
Would we be able to get a pay $18, get six months kinda thing? I've never liked recurring subscriptions, bad experiences and such. I'd go for that, though.
But when that call never comes, it's time to face what you've become - there's no point doing all of this, unless you know you're having fun.
Yes, you could pay any amount for however long, and I'll have deals like six months = 5 month's pay. (get a free month)
Fear not, Frank Lux - I am considering having a "market" for days too. It would be like an auction, sell your days for x amount each. Also, I'll have it so you can buy them for people.
And another forum? Wah, but I loves teh forumz! And wouldn't that mean that it would suck away posters that would otherwise talk in the free forums?
Another one I noticed was earlier beta testing, would that really be a benefit to you or the paying player at all? With bugs and stuff it's better to leave new features to be tested out by all so that way people can find bugs faster and the VIPs won't be getting stressed out by this.
I've seen how those two features can affect a game's members, forum doesn't do too much bad effects, just seperates members and makes it seem like there are social classes. The beta testing thing annoys all members, because one the VIPs get stressed and annoyed and secondly it doesn't help the developer/s, this can also be bad for the non VIPs as things from taunting to unfair gameplay can be a result of this.
Making days tradeable is good, it keeps a nice money sink in the game if ever people absolutely want to get rid of their money.
It would depend what kinds of new features we're talking. Testing new areas might not work so well, but some crazy new kind of splicing or whatever that does work, but where game balance is questionable, that'd work decently.
As far as VIP only forum goes, I'd check it the same as I do all the others. It wouldn't be like everyone else is "missing out" on anything by not being able to check it, though. Not like somebody's giving out cookies for posts in the VIP forum.
Though, actually, that does make me think of something. Some form of trading would be wonderful and awesome. Then we could have contests through the forums.

Aizebul: really? What do you have in mind? If you're a coder/designer, you should be able to see what needs to be changed in the layout to make a new one. I was just thinking a gold layout or something. *shrug*
CJ: No... not a brand new forum system, just another board for VIPs. The testing-beforehand thing helps in cases where there may be unprofessional things I wouldn't want the whole of MonBre to see, like a syntax error, a typo, or something that should work but simply doesn't. Due to the nature of PHP, typically one person's bug is another person's, so we'd only need a few testers to find the bug.
Rakki: It'd be whole new features, not areas. I wouldn't even say quests.
You could always make it an option to turn off ads for VIPs, personally I know I'd leave them. They're not exactly in the way too much, and there's never been anything questionable or irritating. I mean, the people who are going to pay for VIP are the people who will be playing the most, and taking out the ads for them would cut down on the ad views a huge amount.
I'm sure it's not exactly a huge amount of money lost, and you'd still be making a profit, but then again you could have your cake and eat it, too.

And a forum board is what I mean, the things I enjoy most about monbre is talking and finding bugs, the rest i've basically finished or i'm not too bothered about, eg- The mayor system and chimeras, the mayor system is a path to destruction lol
I don't really think the VIP board would be terribly exciting, it'd just be stuff that doesn't belong anywhere else. Insults, sarcasm, all the stuff that looks bad. Though that could be amusing sometimes...
Just out of curiosity, when do you think the VIP system will be all coded in?

Ah, right, talking about our super awesome VIP features we're getting would probably suck for everyone else. That would make sense, but somehow I doubt that's how it'll work out, lol.
I'm thinking kinda like the clan boards other games will have, here's a sticky full of spoilers for everything you can't find easily on your own, here's some random crap, good to go!

Chimeras are spliced monsters that get different evo lines if you meet certain conditions. I won't be gettin' VIP as I live in England and i'm still a kid, though i'll try to get VIP if it's not payed via paypal
The chimerae are already in. I'm sure you could ask someone and they'll let the secret slip as to how to get one. Also, one of my monsters is a chimera.
Well, do I need to do some ridiculous thing like splice the agility/strength evolution evil monster with the stamina/agility good monster to get x type of chimera? Or do I do some quest or something? As far as option A goes, a secret slip might be nice, but option B I'll get around to eventually.

I actually kinda like the ads. They tend to be for stuff I've never heard of, mostly gamer or fantasy-esqe things. Not the flabby midsections I'm subjected to on the margin of EVERY PAGE on MySpace, the local news site here, EVERY WHERE.
