In the beginning, there was Mokal. He was not named Mokal, nor did a language exist to call him that. So he made one. And he saw that it was good. He then noticed that he had no one to speak it with.

So Mokal created what we now call "birds", "mammals" and "fish". He then noticed these animals had no proper tongue to speak with him. He saw that this was bad. So he created what we now are, and that is called "human". He made the first human and saw that it was good.

The human was a male. Mokal imbued humans with a magical property called "manta" which acted as an active soul, not that they could do any magic, but could just hold magical attributes. Mokal named the human Jakob, and saw that it was a good name, and said hello. Jakob and Mokal had a wonderful relationship going, until both he and Mokal simultaneously realized they were sexually bored and they were not homosexual beings. So Mokal created females. And the first female he created he named Myla.

So life was good. Trees and birds and the world in general prospered. Myla and Jakob had many children, and some were spawned by Mokal because he at that point had only made it possible to reproduce once every nine months.

The people however, were not perfect. Nor could he make them perfect. Mokal decided he should add spice to his life and help the humans out, so he created what we now call "monsters". These were not cave beasts, or dolphins with sharp fangs, or flying giant cockroaches who will one day evolve to the point of tunneling under ground and breathing fire. No, these were special monsters. And the monsters were imbued with their own magical life force, also called "manta", which they used to focus their energies into actually existing. One could say the manta was the monster's soul.

It was at this time that some monsters chose to ally with the humans... some however did not. These monsters ran away fearing slavery, and started their own civilizations and most grew to be very ugly and menacing, due to dark energies corrupting them. Mokal was saddened, but understood this was the way things had to be. The monsters that allied with the humans ended up working as partners with humans.

Unfortunately, even Mokal had his limits. After the population of humans and monsters reached roughly 2,000, he could not watch over them any more. Humans and bad monsters were beginning to develop cultures and languages of their own (though humans stayed strictly to what is known as "common tongue") and it was then Mokal decided it was time to split his powers to help him.

But quite frankly, Mokal was not the most intelligent Supreme Being in the universe. Not that there was one, of course, but if there was, it's likely it would have been more intelligent than he. So Mokal split himself into ten forms, each form taking control of a certain force of Aerra. The forces are described below.

Mokal, the Creator - He is the one who at first made everything 'tick'. He is the one who makes things and watches over what is currently there. It is with him all who die, rest, and new lives are created.

Armen, the Deceitful - Armen was created second and was to be the goddess of all that was grieving. Not a favorite with the Aerran people for obvious reasons, she is the least paid-attention-to. That is until something grieving happens, at which point she is the first to be called upon.

Harold, the Righteous - The third god created was a man named Harold, and he stood for all that was good in the world. Many pray to him for good fortune and luck, and he is a favorite of many people to worship.

Kiera, the Elementalist - Kiera was the fourth created god, and controlled the weather and all elements surrounding the earth: water, wind, fire, ice, and earth. She is known to be temperamental at times, and most pray to her for good weather. It is unfortunate for her, though, that as with the other gods' powers, she is limited to the natural physics of Aerra and the weather, for the most part, in Aerra, is not volatile and tends to be sunny.

Shara, the Lover - Shara was the fifth one to be created, and is the goddess of love. From flirtatious to romantic to marriage, she guides lovers the way to true peace. However, she has a playful side, also. She likes to disguise herself in different guises, and attract men who fall victim to her charm. She is quite promiscuous and quite frankly I believe you know what happens after that.

Quinton, the Knowledgeable - The sixth to be created was Quinton. He is very knowledgeable about everything in the world, even to a psychic level. He knows much about everything, however he is not much of a strategic thinker, or sociable, and considering he knows a lot about everyone, he can get a little annoying at times. For this he is the least-liked god among gods, and is usually seen roaming the land asking people if they have any questions they'd need asked, and he would be happy to help them out.

Omen, the Deathbringer - Omen's the seventh to be created, and he represents death and all that is dying and dead. He is quite a grim fellow, and living up to his name, he is a feared and unpopular god. He carries a scythe to reap the final soul out of the human who is dying, or the manta of monsters who die. He uses this as energy to share with Mokal who uses it to create life again.

Syntia, the Melancholic - The eighth to be created, Syntia is a tricky character. She can shapeshift to any form she'd like, and represents all evil there is in the world. She praises those who do hateful things and loves to stir chaos. She spends most of her days helping out evil-doers and shapeshifting into objects (which might I add, have a greenish tint to them, much like her skin) to eavesdrop. She doesn't particularly like men, and likes to tease them much like Shara does, but after her pleasures... are completed... the men are usually captured and it is not known exactly what she does with them, as no man has ever returned, but it's assumed the deeds are horrible and evil things.

Krisst, the Fighter - Getting ready for a big battle? Call this guy. Krisst is the ninth god to be created and is a very violent fellow. He loves tests of strength, and combat in general. He's also very much into athletics, and oversees the sports in Aerra.

Gloria, the Entertainer - The tenth and final god to be created, Gloria is known for, well, having fun! All festivals and parties are overseen by her, and it's rare to have her miss one. She is very into what's "in" and "out" and is always known to be the life of the party. While no parties or festivals are going on, she can be seen roaming the lands in search of people to have fun with. The only work she likes to do is setting up parties, which annoys the gods to no end when she is needed for a task.

So it was then that the gods were made, and now Mokal could finally take a rest every now and then. Mokal however, made the mistake of thinking he would still rule over all his new gods, and he was found to be incorrect, for if you are any good at math, you will know that dividing yourself by ten, percentage-wise, means you have 10% of your current original self. Well so did Mokal. The gods at first did not know what to make of the world, so some ran away and others stayed. The ones that stayed did not want to be ruled by Mokal, and so he decided they were failures creation-wise; however he could not banish them away, for he was one of them now.

Fast forward roughly 700 years. People have developed to the point of using very modern materials, even titanium. Most buildings are made of stone, and electricity has been discovered, which works well because of manta acting as an infinite source of energy for it to exist upon. Cars are not invented and quite frankly aren't needed; many people ride on monsters or take the train. Boating exists using many materials, and continent flying uses giant zeppelin-like aircrafts. Modern day luxuries such as phones, cell phones, and clothes are actually advanced; clothing is futuristic-looking, and cell phones have many features and absolutely amazing reception due to a technology involving very strong radio towers around the world linked up together. There is no form of internet, but there is a digital town message board which people can use (the keyboard is a touch-screen) to post information about parties or new things found.

One should think of Aerra as Earth, just, what Earth would be with different landscapes, small changes in technology, and of course, monsters.

It was around 3 years ago (AD 704) the gods found that people were getting arrogant. And they had good reason to! There were so many humans and monsters living together, that the sheer amount of manta built up that people found they didn't have to depend on gods for magical energies, and some extremists even claimed they could take down a god if they really wanted to.

So the gods decided to issue a challenge. In each of the 10 capital cities, each god said to the people that they will place an avatar of themselves to be constantly fighting in an arena at the city. The 'weakest' gods were to go first; placing their avatars at the places they found to hold the easiest people and mobs. People were to explore the world, defeating each god as shown below:

1. Gloria, the Entertainer
2. Quinton, the Knowledgeable
3. Shara, the Lover
4. Harold, the Righteous
5. Armen, the Deceitful
6. Syntia, the Melancholic
7. Kiera, the Elementalist
8. Mokal, the Creator
9. Krisst, the Fighter
10. Omen, the Deathbringer

And those that defeated them would be called "Okupi" (oh-kuh-pee) and would be granted an amazing treasure. It's rumored you also get some form of a "wish".

Some people choose to make that their goal in life. Others work for their guilds, becoming raid masters or workers for the guild's funds.
